What is the PTO?

The PTO is an organization of parents and teachers committed to enriching the educational and social experience of students and their families. The Burrell Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) welcomes new and returning Burrell families. We fund enrichment programs and field trips, coordinate family events for the Burrell community and volunteer to support the school in many different ways.

PTO Mission Statement

The Burrell PTO is a Parent Teacher Organization committed to enriching the educational and social experience of Burrell School students and their families. The PTO exists to provide volunteer services and to raise funds that support students’ educational efforts and extracurricular activities.

Volunteer efforts range from a wide variety of in-school support services to coordinating Burrell's participation in family and community events. Each year an assortment of fund raising programs are offered so that families have choices in how they participate. Funds are used for enrichment programs, field trips, and school pride events as well as for other PTO approved expenses that benefit our school and community.

It is our intention to create a welcoming "Burrell Family" that encourages families to participate in both educational and social events that build pride in our school and in our community.

The PTO Volunteer Opportunities

The PTO Handbook is available online, and via hardcopy upon request. This handbook provides details of the many projects we hope to accomplish each year with the support of dedicated parent volunteers like you. You can also check out the Committee Directory on this website for volunteer opportunities.

If you'd like to become more involved, we encourage you to join us. The small group atmosphere of committees makes it easy to get to know other parents as you work together to support the school. There are lots of involvement opportunities with many different levels of time and commitment involved. We have projects that can be done day or night and from home or at the school!

Many thanks to all the PTO members who volunteer to join or chair a committee, sign up to be room parents, and support the PTO throughout the school year.

Staying Informed

A newsletter, PTO News & Notes, is distributed via our PTO email network monthly with updates of important PTO events and fundraisers. Notices of specific activities and events are attached.

The PTO also has a mass email database for regular updates on PTO information. If you are not already signed up, please contact Judy Emerson at or send in the Email Sign Up Form via your child's backpack.

PTO meetings are normally held the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Burrell School. Please check the PTO Calendar posted on this site to confirm these dates. Reminder notices are sent out in advance via email. PTO meeting minutes are distributed via the PTO Google Email network the Wednesday after each PTO meeting. They will also be archived on this website under "Archived Minutes".  A paper copy can be sent home via backpack upon request.

Come on out and join us for the evening, and find out what's happening.

You can make a difference!!
